Peter's father died in 1775, leaving his wife with five children. Peter, Jr., was raised by Adam and Catherine Keller, who were tavern keepers in Frederick, Maryland.

Peter migrated from Frederick County, Maryland, to Beverly, West Virginia, about 1790. In 1791 he acquired the hotel and also operated a tannery on the land occupied by the Ashland service station (1975), using a small stream for a water source. He was a tailor by trade. I have been given the name Maria Mikels as a wife for Johann Theodor but question that as I've also been given records that show her to be the wife of a different man. It is possible she remarried but the places are quite a distance (one near France and one east of Kassel) and one is Catholic and the other protestant.

Maria Mikels as wife of Johann Theodor from Vanetta McVey [LDS given as source but I don't know if it was church records or someone's inaccurate entry.]

The German birthrecord for Charles did not list a mother's name. Uslar, Germany, church records give parents as Johann Theodor Martini and ? [from researcher in Germany]
